Caroline Kearney is an Educational Research Analyst for the European Unit of Eurydice (EEU) - the Information Network on Education in Europe, established by the European Commission. Caroline’s present work at Eurydice involves two comparative studies on Arts and Cultural Education and Decentralisation in European education and training systems. She is also currently collaborating with the United Kingdom's Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA), contributing to a European study on Learning Outcomes commissioned by Cedefop.


In July 2007, Caroline completed her traineeship at the European Commission's DG Education and Culture, in the unit for the Coordination of Lifelong Learning Policies, where she worked primarily on the drafting of a Commission Staff Working Document on strengthening evidence-based policy and practice in European education and training systems, published in September 2007. This topic is also the subject of her final dissertation which she is presently completing for the Masters in Comparative Education, from the Institute of Education, University of London.


Caroline graduated with a BA Honours in Philosophy and History of Art, in 2004, from University College London (UCL). During her time at university, she was Higher Education Ambassador and a secondary school Subject Tutor and Personal Mentor for underachieving students in failing inner-city schools in London, as part of the ‘‘Focus on Higher Education’’ scheme. After graduating, she acted as Assistant Director of University College London’s Art History Summer School, for three consecutive years. From 2005-2006, Caroline taught English at two French lycées in Paris (as part of the Language Assistantship joint programme between the British Council and Le Ministère de l’Éducation Nationale en France). She went on to complete two internships in Prague, at the Czech National Agency for the Lifelong Learning Programme, and a Vocational Training Agency, responsible for the coordination of EU pilot and mobility training projects (as part of the Leonardo da Vinci programme).


Following her participation at the ‘‘Borders, Mobilities and Identities: European Educational Action’’ seminars, organised by the Socrates/Erasmus Network on Comparative Education; Caroline’s paper, ''The New Importance of Citizenship Education in Europe: A case study of England's recent citizenship curriculum development'', is due to be published in December 2007.


Caroline’s main research interests are; European Education Policy, Knowledge Management, Citizenship Education, Curriculum and Qualification Design and Arts and Cultural Education.
